Bronchodilator, Terbutaline, in Asthma

چکیده
subnormal responses found in patients given interriittent COT ticosteroid therapy by Malone et al. (1970). This finding, together with the satisfactory clinical response in these patients with severe disease, suggests that a therapeutic trial of depot tetracosactrin in a dose of 0-5 mg twice weekly should be considered for the control of disease requiring steroid therapy over a prolonged period. The effect of other dosage schedules on hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal functon remains to be investigated. If these findings are confirmed in a larger series they may explain the clinical impression that it is easier to stop corticotrophin therapy than oral steroids and may therefore justify the use of depot tetracosactrin therapy in the treatment of exacerbations of chronic diseases.

Effect of preservative on the efficacy of terbutaline nebuliser solution in atopic asthma.
The efficacy of bronchodilator nebuliser solutions may be influenced by the presence of preservatives. In a double blind, randomised, crossover study the effect of preservatives in determining the airway responses to 5 mg of terbutaline was studied in a group of 21 atopic asthmatic patients. The presence of preservatives affected neither the bronchodilator action of terbutaline nor its protecti...
متن کاملHigh-dose inhaled terbutaline in the management of chronic severe asthma: comparison of wet nebulisation and tube-spacer delivery.
Eight patients with chronic severe asthma, poorly controlled by conventional doses of inhaled bronchodilator, were treated with high-dose inhaled terbutaline (4 mg four times daily), via either wet nebulisation of terbutaline respirator solution, or by tube-spacer aerosol, using cannisters delivering 1 mg terbutaline per metered dose. All patients improved objectively and subjectively on these ...
متن کاملInfluence of an extension tube on the bronchodilator efficacy of terbutaline delivered from a metered dose inhaler.
Pressurized aerosols of sympathomimetic drugs are widely used in the treatment of bronchial asthma. The efficacy of this form of treatment is diminished in a number of patients by difficulties in coordination between the aerosol actuation and the inhalation. In order to improve the intrapulmonary deposition of terbutaline, an extension tube has been adapted to the regular pressurized aerosol de...
متن کاملComparative bronchodilator responses to atropine and terbutaline in asthma and chronic bronchitis.
We have compared bronchodilator responses to atropine and terbutaline in 39 chronic bronchitics and 16 stable asthmatics. Fasting subjects were given either 1.05 mg atropine of 5.0 mg terbutaline orally. Pulmonary function was assessed using the peak responses, namely: three 60-minute intervals for terbutaline and three 30-minute intervals for atropine. A subgroup of five reactive bronchitis pa...
متن کاملDomiciliary comparison of terbutaline treatment by metered dose inhaler with and without conical spacer in severe and moderately severe chronic asthma.
The bronchodilator response to cumulative doses of terbutaline administered by metered dose inhaler with and without a conical spacer device and by Acorn nebuliser has been compared in groups of patients with chronic severe and moderately severe asthma. After laboratory studies the patients undertook a randomised domiciliary crossover comparison of bronchodilator response to terbutaline given b...
متن کاملComparison of terbutaline and placebo from a pressurised metered dose inhaler and a dry powder inhaler in a subgroup of patients with asthma.
BACKGROUND Reversibility after administration of an inhaled bronchodilator is not always demonstrable in patients with asthma. Bronchodilator aerosol-induced bronchoconstriction has also been reported to occur in some patients. METHODS Fifteen selected patients showing < 10% improvement in forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) when tested with four doses of salbutamol (0.1 mg/dose) or...
